What Kind of Workwear is Right For You? (Part 1)

19 Jan 2022
Whether you’re new to a worksite, or just looking to update your kit, I’m sure you can imagine how important a good set of safety clothing is.

Apart from the clothes being practical, with many pockets to store tools and little bits, as well as breathable waterproof materials to help keep you warm and dry, they’re also supposed to keep you from getting hurt.

Many of the good workwear in Ireland are abrasive and tear resistant, meaning they shouldn’t give out just because you’ve worked a long day. In fact, any decent set of workwear should last you years before needing to be replaced, but how do you find what you’re looking for?

In this guide, we’re going to explain to you some of the best options available for workwear in different kinds of worksites. That way, you’re always prepared.

Workwear for Home Renovations

So, with home renovations, you have to aware of your dangers. In such a limited space, with having to work around other people on the same property, you have to have the ability to move around safely. Now of course your workmates shouldn’t be leaving stuff all over the ground, but to make sure you yourself are as safe as possible, it’s good to be prepared.

Agility is key here, so we recommend getting a good pair of Safety Shoes. As opposed to boots, the shoes will over you a good degree of protection while also allowing you to move around easier.

Following the same idea, make sure you pick the right trousers. Something light is ideal to move around, but you’ll also want to make sure something warm as well in case the work you’re doing is cold, draughty or outdoors.

Workwear for Small Construction Sites

So, with a construction site, you’re going to be working outside a lot, so you need to make sure your workwear reflects Ireland’s weather. Out of the gate I’d look into a strong work shirt to be safe in the summer, and a good quality, ideally waterproof, jacket to protect yourself when the weather gets worse. Together, these things will get you through the elements.

With a wide open construction site, you can afford to have strong foot protection. Boots would be the choice over shoes here. They’re less manoeuvrable, but offer much more protection when dealing with uneven surfaces or lose dangers on the ground.

Now, if you have a good pair of shoes and don’t have the budget to get a pair of boots as well, don’t worry. You’ll probably be fine in just shoes, but these are things to consider when making your purchases for the best performance.

Workwear for Road Works

With Roadworks, much of the details in the previous paragraphs still apply. You’re still outdoors, so make sure you’re warm, waterproof and protected.

We have to point out the obvious safety risk with road works though. The traffic. Even if your workforce is upholding all of the safety guidelines, all it takes is one bad driver to do some real damage. To reduce the chances of this happening, you should make sure you’re wearing good quality high-viz clothing.

A pull-over vest will do the trick, but if you want to be really seen and have access to all of your pockets, and maybe stay warm as we get farther and farther into winter months, then nothing beats a strong high-viz jacket.

Even outside of these three examples, a good, dependable set of workwear will get you through most days on site, so make sure you’re protected and safe.
